OpenITG Devs' Seeking Machines for Testing
Posted by bacon - Mon 06/30 2008 - 10:50 AM - 637 Views

The creators of the open-source ITG project, OpenITG, are seeking machine owners of upgrades and dedicabs r16 or later machines. Those willing are to test functionality features for the upcoming versions from the project.

OpenITG is an open-source project based off of StepMania 3.95, written to replace and improve on the "In The Groove 2" arcade binary. As of alpha 6 (current version), the project includes:

  • Custom songs (R21), with fully settable limits
  • Full patch functionality (reading and applying)
  • Self-check and diagnostics screens
  • PIUIO input/lights driver and ITGIO input driver
  • Dongle support, including arcade-encrypted ZIPs and serial number
  • Countless fixes over 3.95, as well as several over ITG2AC
  • Full compatibility with 3.95 and ITG2AC files
  • PC and arcade builds available, on Windows and Linux

If you own or have access to an arcade machine we can use to run tests on, please contact me or infamouspat on here or BoXoRRoXoRs. I also have AIM ("vyhdycokio"), so you can use that too.

In particular, we need upgrades with most/all working lights, and r16-or-later dedicated machines, but all machines are helpful.

Please keep in mind that OpenITG does not yet handle lights on ITGIO, and handles input slowly on PIUIO - these are things we need machines to work on. It's not playable yet, so we'd prefer not using public machines if it'll be in the way.

Thanks a ton for all the help and support thus far. :)
The main site for downloads is at http://openitg.gr-p.com/, and you can browse and download the source code at http://reenigne.ath.cx/svn/

OpenITG is a non profit organization working entirely as open source under the MIT license. Outside of the usual hardware used to convert machines to StepMania, OpenITG is working with hardware that is no longer in development. Therefor bootleggers cannot obtain such hardware to produce more kits. Hopefully this post will help bring better light to this project along with new participants for help.

all ITG IP is owned by Konami now. I highly doubt they're going to care.

Anyway, all the code is open-sourced. Did you even read the page?

The PIUIO driver can be used for Pump It Up, but that doesn't really help us - we've run into issues specific to ITG machines, and neither the problems nor any solutions can be reproduced on the Pump It Up arcade software.

projects like this will keep ITG alive in arcades for many more years as it gives the benefit of added features to existing machines which would otherwise be running the same software forever.

arcades, with those so inclined, could essentially feature their own unique custom made software from this project.

many arcades are already doing this with hacked machines, but this takes it to the next level as your not bound to limitations with the security in ITG's software.
